Fun and Games

Working at Kaos isn’t just a 9-5 job. Between roleplaying or real-time strategy games at lunch, fantasy football in the conference room or flag football in the practice bubble, and paintball in the Poconos or skiing in Vermont, we’re like one preposterously large family.  Whether your interests lie in games, sports, Broadway, push-up contests, the arts, dogs, the outdoors, cats, fine cuisine, or punching colleagues in the face (no, no, not like that… we have a boxing gym across the street), we’ve got you covered!

Getting Our Game On

While we have a lot of fun with what we do, we take game development very seriously (no mom, I don’t just play games all day). Kaos is committed to making the best games in the industry, and we are constantly striving to improve in all areas of development. Whether that means sending dozens of developers out to GDC every year, providing certification courses for our scrum masters, or embracing the latest technologies and software solutions Kaos is committed to excellence across the board.

Represent!

Likewise, we are committed to being ambassadors and representatives of the games industry. Kaos Studios staffers regularly speak at the Game Developers Conference, teach at local colleges and universities, volunteer at area high schools, and are active members and coordinators of local chapters of the International Game Developers Association.

Collaborative Kaos

As with any creative medium, game development is a highly collaborative art form. Accordingly, we make sure that creative contributions come from all over the development team. Designers, programmers, artists, producers, testers, audio folk and support staff are all encouraged to take part in the design process of our games. While our designers are charged with making order out of the feedback received from the dev team, it’s not an uncommon sight at all to see a motley crew of multi-disciplinary Kaos staffers discussing and debating the most recent end-of-day studio playtest.

Quality (of Life) Assurance

Above all, we are driven to ensure that our employees have a high quality of life and a good work/life balance. While game development – like any entertainment business – is a profession that lives on deadlines and overtime, Kaos places a high premium on our employees coming to work refreshed, relaxed, and ready to make industry-leading games. Key to that is our deployment of Scrum and Agile methodologies, our commitment to an 8-hour workday, and our refusal to burn out our employees. While we may not be able to eliminate overtime and crunch completely, we’re constantly evolving our business to better meet the needs of both the project and the long-term health and happiness of our workforce.
